Presentation by John McTighe - President, Background Decision

It seems every year comes with a new swathe of background screening laws. These can be from the Federal Government, State Governments, or even local municipalities.  These laws have been followed up on by intensive legal action against employers for these compliance violations. In addition, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has substantially stepped up its enforcement against employers whose screening methods may have a disparate impact on minorities and women. This presentation will cover the key requirements of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), as well as several state laws. We’ll also cover new guidance put forth by the EEOC and offer some recommendations on how to create a consistent background check policy.

John McTighe recognizes that companies who conduct background checks need more than just raw data. For over 10 years he's been successful at helping hundreds of companies design, implement, manage and control their global screening programs. In his leadership role at SIR, he has been tasked with building the screening division, and is responsible for its sales and operations. He has consistently delivered double-digit growth each year during the past 10 years while also improving efficiency, quality, & compliance.
McTighe is an active member in the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), and has been certified in the Fair Credit Reporting Act by the National Credit Reporting Association and Consumer Data Industry Association.
He is a frequent speaker about background checks and screening best practices at human resources and multi-family housing events around the country. McTighe is an expert in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and EEO Compliance.
